• Modernization of a large-scale Java enterprise application*

The project is modernizing a complex enterprise application that has grown over many years. The existing Spring-based legacy system runs on Java 8, OSGi, and Eclipse RCP and is being gradually migrated to a modern, maintainable architecture with Java 25 and Quarkus.

Marcus works on analysis, architecture, refactoring, and implementation. One focus is on untangling historically grown structures and dependencies and on building a clean, sustainable Java and Quarkus technology stack.

I served as the Lead Designer for two cross-functional teams at Casavi, a software platform for property managers. Casavi is a central platform for all aspects of digital property management, which streamlines operations and business processes.

SmartTask: The team focuses on ticket management, workflow automation, AI integration, enhancing communication between property managers and their clients.

Customer app/portal: The team is dedicated to fostering community engagement among residents of managed properties. The customer portal in combination with the Casavi app solves the challenges for property and facility managers.

My role spans the full design lifecycle, covering UX/UI design, user research, usability testing, and strategic design planning, across Casavi's web platform, mobile app, and customer portals. Each team comprises around 10 members, including a project manager, designer, developers, and QA testers. I am also responsible for the accessibility assurance of the whole product.

Design unit role: In addition to my core responsibilities, I actively contribute to the development and maintenance of the company's design system and style guide ensuring consistency and scalability across all products. Mentor junior designers is my official and moral responsibility.

• A digital system made up of special software and hardware components. The overall system replaces the traditional process with job slips and handwritten notes and enables more efficient order intake. Orders and work steps for the violin-making company’s projects can now be recorded, processed and logged in real time directly on the workshop’s touchscreen PC, by mobile phone or on the desktop. This gives customers a more transparent view of the work on their instruments and allows them to track the status and progress of their instrument through their customer account.

As Director of Insights at Human Futures, I led international human-centered research and innovation projects for Fortune 500 clients across technology, mobility, financial services, retail, and consumer goods. I was responsible for research strategy and design, project and client management, qualitative and mixed-method research, strategic synthesis, and translating customer and market insights into actionable recommendations for product, service, and business strategy. I managed multidisciplinary project teams, led client workshops and executive presentations, and supported projects from initial problem framing through research, opportunity identification, concept development, and validation.

• Designing UX for a B2B AI SaaS platform covering the full software development lifecycle, including an orchestration transparency panel showing users which AI model is active at each stage, reducing AI opacity and building user trust in multi-model workflows.

As part of the migration from Shopware 5 to 6, it was decided to rethink the entire e-commerce landscape of the regional FUNKE online shops from scratch. The main goals, besides creating a reliable platform with multiple sales channels for each regional brand, were the "rebranding" and the brand development around it.

The rebranding was also transferred into the advertising materials CI, which in the daily newspaper sector, alongside digital performance ads, still has print as a strong focus in the target group segment.
