To ensure profitability, I always manage eCommerce activities holistically, i.e., at the TACOS level. I ensure product-level profitability through threshold ACOS.
My reporting follows the credo: as many KPIs as needed, as few as possible!
And most importantly: not only build, but regularly use, draw conclusions, and, if necessary, take countermeasures to counteract a negative delta from the plan.
I’m also not a fan of ‘growth only through marketing.’ There are so many other levers to increase sales and profitability. In 100% of the companies I’ve advised, these optimization potentials were present. These include especially product availability, having eCommerce-suitable processes, and better use of existing traffic.
