External Project Manager IT Infrastructure Project (m/f/d)

A company is looking for an experienced external project manager for a large-scale IT infrastructure project. The goal is the organizational and operational management of the project, with a focus on project control, coordination, transparency, and consistent follow-up on implementation. Detailed technical responsibility remains with the respective internal and external technical leads.

The project manager will take on overall coordination between internal IT leads, technical sub-project managers, external service providers, and other involved departments.

Time frame: Project start expected in early to mid-2027, duration approximately 12-18 months.

• Set up and maintain a reliable project plan

• Structure the project into work packages, milestones, and dependencies

• Plan and track schedules, resources, and deliverables

• Coordinate parallel technical sub-projects and service providers

• Identify critical paths and dependencies

• Ensure clear tracking of tasks and decisions

• Act as the central organizational interface between internal IT, technical sub-project managers, external service providers, manufacturers, and suppliers

• Prepare, conduct, and follow up on regular project meetings

• Set up and maintain a project risk register

• Coordinate scope of services, deliverables, and schedules with the service providers involved

• Provide regular, concise project status reports

• Coordinate necessary changes with the existing change management process

• Ensure that technical operations and project documentation is created or updated

• Several years of experience managing complex IT infrastructure projects

• Experience in projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders

• Very good knowledge of traditional and hybrid project management

• Experience managing service providers and suppliers

• Basic technical understanding of modern IT infrastructures (e.g. data center, virtualization, storage, network, firewall/security, Microsoft infrastructure)

• Experience with risk, issue, and escalation management

• Structured and independent way of working

• Strong commitment to following up on tasks and deadlines

• Ability to present technical matters in a way suitable for management

• Experience with Jira and Confluence

• ITIL knowledge, particularly Change Management

• Experience in regulated or security-critical business environments

• Knowledge of NIS2, ISO/IEC 27001, and ISMS requirements

• Experience with infrastructure projects during ongoing operations

• Experience with complex migrations and cutover planning

The project manager will not have sole responsibility for technical architecture or implementation. Technical decisions and approvals will be made jointly with the responsible internal technical leads and, where applicable, the architecture, security, and change management teams.
