Data Security

Hamburg
Enrique G.

Last position:

Security Architect at Capgemini

I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology

What it manages

A Document Management System (DMS) stores, organizes, indexes and governs digital documents throughout their lifecycle. It replaces scattered files and email attachments with controlled repositories, searchable metadata, version history, permissions and audit trails. Companies use it for contracts, invoices, quality records, personnel files and technical documentation.

Core capabilities

A strong DMS setup connects document capture with everyday business processes. Experts configure document types, retention rules, access groups, approval paths and full-text search. They also shape folder structures and metadata so people can find the right version without relying on personal filing habits.

  • Document capture, scanning and OCR
  • Version control and review workflows
  • Permissions, retention and audit trails
  • Search, classification and metadata models

Ecosystem and integrations

DMS work often spans Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft 365, OpenText, M-Files, Alfresco, DocuWare or custom repositories. Professionals connect these systems with ERP, CRM, email, identity and collaboration tools through APIs, connectors and automation services. They may also handle migration from network drives, legacy archives or paper-based processes.

When companies need specialists

Freelance expertise is useful when a company is selecting a DMS, replacing an outdated archive or preparing a major migration. It is also valuable when adoption is low, search results are unreliable or workflows do not reflect how teams actually work. Hamburg companies in logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, finance and professional services often need document control across offices, suppliers and regulated processes.

  • A repository has become difficult to search
  • Teams store multiple uncontrolled document versions
  • A merger requires content consolidation
  • Existing workflows need redesign or automation

Delivery and collaboration

Projects usually begin with content analysis, stakeholder interviews and a review of security and compliance needs. Experts then define the information architecture, configure workflows, migrate and validate content, and support user acceptance. Remote collaboration works well for configuration and documentation; on-site workshops in Hamburg can help with process mapping, scanning operations and change management. German and English communication may both matter in international teams.

What strong experts bring

The best professionals combine repository knowledge with process design, information governance and practical change management. They ask how documents are created, approved, shared and retained before recommending a product or configuration. Look for clear migration plans, testable acceptance criteria, careful permission design and evidence that users can find and manage content efficiently after launch.

Frequently asked questions

Before you brief your next project: the most common questions about Document Management System.

A Document Management System centralizes digital files and controls how they are created, reviewed, approved, shared and retained. Companies use it to improve search, protect sensitive content, maintain version history and support auditable business processes.

A DMS focuses on structured document control, metadata, retention, auditability and process workflows. SharePoint can provide these capabilities as part of Microsoft 365, while general file-sharing services usually emphasize access and collaboration rather than formal governance.

A Document Management System specialist should understand information architecture, OCR, metadata, identity management, permissions and workflow automation. Experience with Microsoft 365, ERP or CRM integrations, APIs, migration tools and change management is also useful.

The right DMS experience depends on content volume, integrations, security requirements and migration complexity rather than project size alone. A focused configuration may need a specialist with strong product knowledge, while a regulated migration calls for proven governance, testing and rollout experience.

A Document Management System project can often be delivered remotely through workshops, shared documentation, screen sessions and controlled test environments. On-site work in Hamburg can still be valuable for mapping physical processes, interviewing users and coordinating stakeholders across departments.

A Document Management System project may involve Microsoft SharePoint, OpenText, M-Files, Alfresco or DocuWare, along with Microsoft 365 and enterprise identity services. The best choice depends on governance needs, existing systems, workflow complexity and the organization’s migration constraints.

A strong DMS professional explains decisions in terms of retrieval, security, lifecycle control and user adoption. Ask for examples of information architecture, migration validation, permission models, workflow testing and measurable acceptance criteria, while checking how they handle exceptions and legacy content.

A Document Management System assignment often combines discovery, repository configuration, integrations, migration and user enablement. Professionals should expect input from legal, IT, operations and business teams, with careful attention to access rights, retention rules and the quality of existing documents.
