• Short-duration architecture and managed-AI-platform evaluation for an AI startup. Evaluated AWS Bedrock, SageMaker and adjacent AWS AI services against the startup's platform and operating requirements, including AWS product demonstrations and SageMaker training.
• Assessed technical fit together with operating economics. Concluded the SageMaker cost structure was too expensive for the startup's needs at that stage, even with available AWS credits. The evaluation did not proceed to production.
• A platform can be technically capable and still be architecturally wrong when its economics do not fit the stage or the workload.

• Evaluated where GenAI could create value, the emerging model and tooling landscape, and what should be built versus bought. The assessment ended in production rather than a slide deck.
• Data-sovereignty requirements ruled out public cloud. Specified and built a self-hosted, air-gapped environment: Linux system with 128GB RAM, 64 CPU cores and an 18GB GPU; configured the GPU environment and installed NVIDIA drivers, PyTorch and the ML toolchain. Deployed Ollama, Llama 3.x, Open-WebUI, n8n and multiple vector databases.
• Built the production RAG intelligence platform: web and database ingestion, tokenized HTML processing, structured output into ChromaDB, and conversational retrieval through Llama 3.1 / Ollama. Integrated a verification layer before handoff so retrieved conclusions could be checked against their underlying evidence.
• Built investor-identification and hardware-profile query pipelines that contributed to the firm's $450M and $650M closed funds.

Regulated production delivery under Model Risk Management governance. The same Bank of America organization that engaged me for Capstone XVA brought me back three years later.

• Delivered FVA pricing using live market data across all asset classes to the Hedging Desk, in regulated production. Worked directly with the desk on live-market-data requirements and with quants and strats on pricer and market-data defects; collaborated across CPM, Market Data, Market Risk, Quants and Strats to extend CSA coverage.
• Designed the three-way match reconciliation used to secure Model Risk Management approval for the FVA pricer calculators.
• Delivered on Bank of America's Quartz platform and its object database, with SQLite as the database of record and SQL against it.

• Director on Bank of America's proprietary distributed-compute platform serving 4,000+ developers firmwide. Managed cross-divisional requirements and architecture for the greenfield NextGen Job Server, building a multithreaded simulation projecting 16,000 developer-hours per day in firmwide savings — the analysis that supported the investment.
• Designed and delivered the BobJobGenerator interface giving FICC QA direct control over distributed workloads. Partnered with the global SDLC organization to improve development processes and tooling across the 4,000+ developer population.
• Piloted regulated XVA risk workloads on Microsoft Azure — the cloud side of a deployment decision I have since made on-prem as well.
• Worked throughout on the Quartz object database, the platform's non-relational data layer.

Enterprise semantic-data architecture at Wall Street scale. Still in production.

• Owned enhancing the Cesium semantic reference-data ontology with new data types across Party, Account, Contact, Relationship and primitive data supporting AML/KYC, corporate actions and industry classification. Lead Data Strategist for data quality. Helped consolidate 26 systems of record into one authoritative platform.
• Performed quality and accuracy analytics across nearly one petabyte using SPARQL, HiveQL and SQL on Hadoop. Built the daily matching and break dashboards and worked breaks to resolution.
• Visualised the data model in TopBraid so business and technology agreed definitions first, then served the unified ontology through APIs to the rest of the bank.
• Created the Day-0 go-live plan and the release process every subsequent release ran on. Served as Day-0 Load Coordinator through QA, UAT and production.
• Led the initial go-to-market push: consulted to Bank of America's Sales Technology group, which built on Cesium for the sales hierarchy used to compensate salespeople.
• Defined and documented extension practices covering developer access, new extensions, indexes, primitive publication and end-to-end monitoring; trained new team members and extension clients. Participated in the EDM Council FIBO standardization process.
• Technologies: RDF, SPARQL, OWL, TopBraid, Lucene, Hadoop, HiveQL, Spark, Scala, Akka, Python, Quartz and its object database.

• Co-founded the company; wrote the business plan, defined the business model, authored and filed patents, and developed relationships with customers, advisors and investors. Architected a patent-pending semantic patent-matching platform.
• Assembled and led a Scrum team with backlog priority driven by Chief Patent Counsel feedback. Built Dev, QA, integration/CI and production environments; wrote and reviewed Java/Tapestry and built unit-test, Selenium UI-test and load-test infrastructure.
• Operated InProTopia as the contracting vehicle for the Bank of America Cesium and Bloomberg BDE engagements.

Led enterprise architecture through NAVTEQ's growth from roughly $500M to $2B in annual revenue.

• Led and developed a 19-member global architecture team with multi-million-dollar budget responsibility, and provided strategic technology leadership to an R&D organization with a $100M operating budget. Approximately $1B of company growth came from expansion into mobile handset manufacturers, a channel I contributed to architecting.
• Designed the Map Communities crowdsourcing ecosystem; created NAVTEQ's proprietary Location Reference Object platform and incremental-update technologies; drove adoption of distributed grid technologies including Terracotta and Coherence.
• Founded the NAVTEQ Architecture Council (19 senior architects) and established architecture governance covering technology standardization, elimination of duplicate initiatives and time-bound exceptions for tactical work.
• Member of the Nokia Architecture Council operated by the Nokia CTO; co-chaired two Nokia-wide strategic technology working groups. Presented architecture and business strategy to the NAVTEQ CEO, COO and President and to members of Nokia's Global Executive Board.
• Created TEQTalks and the TEQLoaner program to raise technical capability across NAVTEQ's ~5,000 employees.

• Built the global architectural cost model for the deployment — the analysis that decided whether the programme was funded at all.
• The model projected approximately $2.6M in annual chargeback reduction — roughly $13M over five years — and gave my client the business case that won funding approval from Marv Adams, Lew Kaden and Kevin Kessinger. I left the engagement before those projections could be validated.
• Program-managed and architected the portal across 11 Citigroup organizations, four regions and five external vendors (BEA, MphasiS, Interwoven, Sun, Autonomy), designing capacity for approximately 350,000 internal users.
• Developed high-level plans tying together cross-silo detailed plans, communication plans, stakeholder analysis, global environment diagrams and cross-functional buy-in documents. Coordinated infrastructure teams across networking, load balancing, data centers, UNIX engineering, capacity planning, desktop administration and information security.
• Led performance testing and tuning in a half-scale production environment at the Sun Test Center using LoadRunner and Symantec i3. Ran a two-day architectural evaluation of Microsoft SharePoint 2007 and root-caused PeopleSoft HR portal crashes.
• Infrastructure decisions are financial decisions. At Citigroup the economic model was part of the architecture, not an after-the-fact justification.

• Designed and implemented the web front end to Goldman Sachs' Linux provisioning platform, ultimately covering 6,000+ Linux servers. Automated Tomcat package builds with Ant and planned the Web Engineering package lifecycle for UNIX Engineering. Provided enterprise J2EE engineering support. Identified a Java certificate-expiration exposure and helped avert disruption to WebICE and FTP services.

• Provided technical leadership integrating approximately $450 million of Citigroup online assets into a federation of portals supporting the consumer bank. Architected EConsumer integration across Products & Services, Planning & Tools, Security, Credit Card Funding and components of a new sign-on flow.
• Designed, implemented and managed CitibankOnline's personalization infrastructure — rules-based content targeting on attributes and behavioral context. Early applied AI in consumer banking.
• Performed security review and remediation addressing cross-site scripting and SQL-injection risk in Java and JavaScript. Ran scalability testing with LoadRunner, production tuning, configuration peer review and core-dump analysis. Led SWAT teams of 2–7 developers and provided architectural guidance to 15+.

• Grew the engineering team and established the end-to-end SDLC that enabled the organization to design, build, test, release and deploy software into production — before modern CI/CD frameworks existed.
• Managed seven developers plus external consultants and led hiring, requirements gathering, use-case development, engineering execution, QA practices and production-delivery processes. Built the Unicast Testing Center, the company-wide Task Tracking Center and a class-testing framework, establishing repeatable engineering controls from development through production.
• Managed BBN engineers implementing neural-net fingerprinting and fuzzy-logic natural-language processing for ad targeting — the same problem class as modern personalization, on 1998 hardware.
• Participated in sales meetings explaining the technology to customers. Designed and delivered a seven-day technical course for the operations organization using CRC cards.

• Conducted R&D on MetaMagic, a Java framework providing metadata-driven views of heterogeneous legacy data through object-oriented web servers. Designed the MetaMagic Data Source libraries: reusable Java classes presenting arbitrary source content through a common abstraction.
• Co-authored MetaMagic: Generating Virtual Web Sites through Data Modeling, presented at the Sixth International World Wide Web Conference (WWW6), 1997. Served on the WWW6 Workshop on Object-Oriented Web Servers and Data Modeling.
• The same metadata and heterogeneous-source retrieval discipline later reappeared in the Cesium semantic architecture and in modern RAG systems.

• Remote Control Television. CDDI networking and capacity work; operated a deductive database — logic-based inference over structured data — for the interactive-television group; built and maintained the SGI server laboratory.

• One of four systems administrators responsible for the pools of central computing systems serving approximately 65,000 university users, starting in my final undergraduate year and continuing through my M.S. Planned and implemented upgrades across pools of university multi-user machines; maintained the university news server and the campus email directory in Ingres.
• Provided Kerberos maintenance and technical support. Implemented the security intrusion-detection system for the university systems; performed security audits on central computer systems and security code reviews; handled security incidents on campus and interacted with CERT on them. First instance of a pattern that repeats: reviewing code for what should not be allowed through.
• Wrote embedded SQL and scripting against an Ingres database; built web applications in CGI and Perl; obtained, installed, patched and extended public-domain UNIX software alongside in-house tools.
