Data Security

Enrique Gallardo

Last position:

Security Architect at Capgemini

I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology

Visual planning

Whimsical is a collaborative workspace for turning rough ideas into clear visuals. Teams use it for flowcharts, wireframes, mind maps, sticky-note sessions, and process maps that are easy to review with non-technical stakeholders.

Typical work

  • Product flows and user journeys
  • Website and app wireframes
  • Workshop boards and brainstorming sessions
  • Decision trees, diagrams, and process maps
  • Shared planning spaces for distributed teams

What strong experts do

Strong Whimsical specialists keep boards clean, structured, and easy to update. They know when to use a wireframe, when to use a diagram, and how to organize ideas so teams can act on them without long explanations.

Skills around Whimsical

Whimsical work often sits next to product discovery, UX thinking, and clear communication. The best experts also understand information architecture, user flows, remote workshop facilitation, and how to hand off visuals to design or product teams.

When companies bring them in

Companies usually look for freelance Whimsical expertise when they need quick clarity before a build starts, support for a discovery sprint, or help aligning teams on a shared structure. In Germany, this is common in product, SaaS, agency, and internal digital teams that work across locations.

Ecosystem and collaboration

Whimsical is often used alongside Figma, Jira, Notion, Slack, and other planning tools. Good specialists make the boards useful in real work, keep naming consistent, and help remote and on-site teams review ideas without confusion.

Frequently asked questions

Key details about Whimsical, drawn from the questions we get asked most.

Whimsical is used to map ideas, flows, and early product structure in a way teams can understand quickly. Companies use it for wireframes, diagrams, mind maps, and workshop boards before work moves into design or delivery.

Whimsical is often chosen when teams want lighter, cleaner visuals with less setup. Compared with Miro or FigJam, it usually feels more focused on diagrams, wireframes, and structured planning than on large open-ended whiteboards.

A strong Whimsical specialist can turn messy input into clear screens, flows, and workshop artifacts. Look for someone who also understands UX basics, product thinking, and how teams make decisions from visual notes.

Often yes, because Whimsical is most valuable when the visuals support real product decisions. A specialist with UX or product design knowledge can create wireframes and flows that are useful, not just neat.

For simple boards or diagrams, a general visual-thinking specialist may be enough. For discovery workshops, product flows, or handoff-ready wireframes, you want a Whimsical expert who has worked on similar planning and UX tasks before.

Yes. Whimsical is well suited to remote collaboration because boards can be reviewed and updated asynchronously. For teams in Germany, remote work is common, though some sessions may benefit from live workshops across time zones or office locations.

Good Whimsical work is easy to read, logically grouped, and built for action. The best specialists avoid clutter, name things clearly, and create diagrams or wireframes that help the team decide what to do next.

Whimsical often goes together with Figma, Notion, Jira, and Slack, plus strong workshop facilitation. A good freelancer should be able to translate notes, user stories, and rough ideas into visuals that others can use immediately.

The average hourly rate of freelancers in Germany who have used Whimsical in their recent projects is 107 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 857 € based on an 8-hour working day.

Of the freelancers in Germany who have used Whimsical in their recent projects, 100% hold at least a Bachelor's degree and 60% hold at least a Master's degree.

On average, freelancers in Germany who have used Whimsical in their recent projects have 17 years of professional experience, with a single engagement typically lasting around 1.8 years.
