HCL Notes Banking Support, Domino Administration / Migration / Operations at Atruvia / HCL International
Description of duties “Atruvia / HCL International” Role: HCL Notes Banking Support, Domino Administration / Migration / Operations Operations, administration and technical support of the HCL Notes/Domino environment in the Atruvia banking environment on behalf of HCL. As part of an international support team, the focus was on second- and third-level support as well as the processing, management and monitoring of SLA tickets in categories 1, 2 and 3. Duties included the technical analysis and resolution of incidents in the Notes/Domino environment, system administration, and the development and modification of Lotus Notes /Domino applications and LotusScript agents when a programming solution was required. Another focus was ticket dispatching: analysing and assessing incoming tickets, assigning them to the responsible departments and specialist teams, and subsequently coordinating and tracking processing within the agreed SLA periods. There was also direct communication and coordination with subject-matter experts, departments and end customers of the connected banks. In particular, when language or technical communication problems arose within the international support team, German-language customer communication was handled and mediation between customers and technical specialists was provided. Objective Ensuring stable and reliable operation of the HCL Notes/Domino landscape in the Atruvia banking environment and the timely processing of business-critical support cases in line with the agreed Service Level Agreements. Incidents were to be analysed as early as possible and either resolved directly through administrative measures or suitable LotusScript/Notes solutions, or forwarded specifically to the responsible specialist teams. As of: 25.09.2026 (Version 2.10 LITE) including project times Page: 3 of 32 SPO-SOFT EDV Beratung, Dipl.-Ing. Klaus Kano, Tel.: +494532-2767682, Mail: [email], [link] At the same time, qualified preliminary analysis and targeted ticket dispatching were intended to ensure that every ticket reached the technically and professionally responsible department immediately and that unnecessary transfers, processing times and associated costs were reduced. Result Operational Notes/Domino support for the banks served was reliably ensured throughout the entire project period. SLA-relevant tickets were systematically analysed, prioritised, assigned to the responsible departments and tracked through to resolution. Some incidents were resolved directly through administration, technical error analysis and the development of suitable LotusScript agents and modifications to Notes/Domino applications. By directing tickets specifically to the relevant expert and specialist teams, incorrect assignments and unnecessary processing loops were reduced and compliance with the agreed SLA times was supported. Direct communication with the banks and mediation between German-speaking end customers and the international support team also contributed to efficient problem resolution and high customer satisfaction.

About the technology
ESXi foundations
VMware ESXi is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs virtual machines directly on physical servers. It provides the compute layer for Windows and Linux workloads, exposing CPU, memory, storage and network resources through isolated virtual machines. ESXi is commonly managed as part of VMware vSphere, while VMware vSphere Hypervisor is a name often used for the standalone product.
Virtual infrastructure
ESXi supports private clouds, server consolidation, test environments, disaster recovery and application hosting. Companies use it to run business systems without dedicating one physical server to each workload. Virtual machines can be moved, copied, protected and recovered through the wider vSphere ecosystem.
- Consolidate physical servers into virtual hosts
- Create clustered compute environments with vCenter Server
- Prepare workloads for backup, replication or recovery
- Separate production, test and development systems
Ecosystem and tooling
Strong ESXi work includes vCenter Server, vSphere clusters, vMotion, High Availability and Distributed Resource Scheduler. Specialists also work with vSAN, NSX, VMware Tools, templates, datastores and virtual switches. Storage platforms, backup products, identity services and hardware compatibility guides all affect the final design.
When specialists help
Companies bring in freelance expertise during data-center migrations, hardware refreshes, capacity changes and recovery planning. Support is also valuable when hosts show configuration drift, workloads need relocation or a vSphere environment must be standardized. Remote work suits planning, configuration review and monitoring; on-site access can matter for cabling, hardware and local operations.
- Assess an existing ESXi and vSphere environment
- Migrate workloads with controlled service disruption
- Configure host, cluster, storage and network settings
- Document operations, recovery steps and handover tasks
Practical expertise
A capable professional understands virtual machine sizing, NUMA behavior, resource reservations, datastore performance and network segmentation. They can trace problems across the guest system, hypervisor, storage fabric and physical hardware. They also plan maintenance carefully, validate backups and explain operational changes to internal teams.
Quality signals
Look for experience with the exact vSphere edition, hardware stack and storage architecture used in the project. Ask how the specialist handles failed hosts, overloaded datastores, certificate issues, patching and recovery tests. Good work leaves clear diagrams, repeatable configuration records, tested rollback plans and secure access practices. Familiarity with the former ESX name, current ESXi releases and alternatives such as Hyper-V or KVM can improve migration decisions.
Frequently asked questions
The facts hiring teams ask for most often when it comes to VMware ESXi.
VMware ESXi is used to run multiple virtual machines on a physical server. It provides the hypervisor layer for workloads such as databases, business applications, file services and test environments, often under centralized vSphere management.
ESXi is often chosen for its mature vSphere management, migration and availability features. Hyper-V may fit organizations centered on Microsoft infrastructure, while KVM is common in Linux-focused and open-source environments; the right choice depends on skills, licensing, hardware and operational needs.
VMware vSphere Hypervisor work usually requires knowledge of vCenter Server, virtual networking, shared storage and backup systems. Useful adjacent skills include Windows and Linux administration, DNS, identity services, scripting, hardware diagnostics and disaster recovery planning.
VMware ESXi projects need a specialist whose background matches the environment and risk level. A straightforward host setup may need focused virtualization skills, while clustered production systems, migrations and recovery designs call for proven experience with vCenter, storage, networking and change control.
ESXi administration can often be performed remotely through vCenter, secure management access and monitoring tools. On-site collaboration may still be needed for physical server installation, cabling, hardware faults or environments that restrict remote access.
VMware ESXi quality is shown through careful capacity planning, secure configuration and clear operational documentation. Ask for examples of troubleshooting across compute, storage and networking, and check whether the specialist tests backups, recovery procedures and rollback plans.
ESXi changes should start with the hardware compatibility list, host versions, cluster settings, datastore layout and virtual network design. The specialist should also review dependencies, maintenance windows, backup validity, access controls and a tested plan for reversing the change.
ESX was the earlier VMware hypervisor architecture, while ESXi is its successor and uses a smaller, service-console-free design. People may still use “ESX” when searching for VMware virtualization expertise, but current projects generally refer to ESXi and the broader vSphere stack.
The average hourly rate of freelancers who have used VMware ESXi in their recent projects is 103 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 822 € based on an 8-hour working day.
Of the freelancers who have used VMware ESXi in their recent projects, 66% hold at least a Bachelor's degree, 36% hold at least a Master's degree, and 5% hold a doctorate.
On average, freelancers who have used VMware ESXi in their recent projects have 25 years of professional experience, with a single engagement typically lasting around 2.3 years.
The most common languages among freelancers who have used VMware ESXi in their recent projects are German (100%), English (94%), and French (17%).
The most common industries among freelancers who have used VMware ESXi in their recent projects are Information Technology (98%), Banking and Finance (61%), and Manufacturing (52%).
The most common business areas among freelancers who have used VMware ESXi in their recent projects are Information Technology (100%), Project Management (88%), and Operations (77%).
