Data Security

Hamburg
Enrique Gallardo

Last position:

Security Architect at Capgemini

I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology

What MDM covers

Master Data Management keeps core business data consistent across systems. It defines one trusted view of customers, products, suppliers, materials, and locations, then governs how that data is created, approved, synchronized, and maintained.

Common project work

  • Design golden records and survivorship rules
  • Clean duplicates and align data quality rules
  • Map source systems into a single master model
  • Set workflows for stewardship and approvals
  • Support SAP MDG, Informatica MDM, and similar stacks

Why companies need it

Companies bring in freelance specialists when data is spread across ERP, CRM, PIM, and analytics tools. MDM work is common in Hamburg when teams need better control over product, vendor, and customer data across logistics, trade, and enterprise systems.

What strong specialists know

Strong professionals understand data modeling, governance, integration, and business rules. They can work with APIs, ETL flows, data quality tools, and matching logic, and they know how to balance business ownership with technical control.

Ecosystem and tools

Master Data Management often sits next to SAP Master Data Governance, Informatica, IBM, Semarchy, Reltio, and Collibra. The right specialist can work across cloud and on-prem setups, connect workflows, and document how each system should own and use master records.

Signs you need help

  • Duplicate records keep reappearing
  • Teams disagree on the same customer or product data
  • Source systems do not share one data model
  • Data quality checks are manual and slow
  • Governance rules are unclear or ignored

Frequently asked questions

Not sure where to start with Master Data Management? These answers cover the essentials.

Master Data Management is used to keep core business data consistent across many systems. It helps companies manage trusted records for customers, products, suppliers, and other key entities so reporting, operations, and automation all use the same source of truth.

MDM focuses on creating and maintaining the master records themselves, while data governance defines the rules, roles, and controls around that data. In practice, the two work together, but MDM is more operational and integration-heavy.

A strong Master Data Management specialist often works with SAP Master Data Governance, Informatica MDM, IBM, Reltio, Semarchy, and Collibra. The exact stack depends on whether the company needs governance workflows, matching rules, synchronization, or broader data control.

Look for skills in data modeling, data quality, integration, ETL, APIs, and business process design. A good MDM professional also understands stewardship, matching and deduplication logic, and how master data flows through ERP, CRM, and PIM systems.

For a small cleanup or assessment, one experienced Master Data Management specialist may be enough. For a wider rollout with governance, integration, and multiple source systems, you usually want someone who has delivered end-to-end MDM programs before.

Most MDM work can be done remotely because it relies on workshops, mapping, configuration, and data review. On-site time in Hamburg can help when teams need fast alignment across business, IT, and data owners, especially early in the project.

Ask for examples of how they defined a master data model, resolved duplicate records, and set up governance that people actually used. A strong Master Data Management specialist explains trade-offs clearly, documents rules well, and can show how their work improved data consistency across systems.

No. MDM also matters for growing companies that have outgrown manual spreadsheets or isolated system data. The more sales channels, suppliers, and product lines you manage, the more valuable a clear master data setup becomes.
