Data Security

Hamburg
Enrique Gallardo

Last position:

Security Architect at Capgemini

I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology

Visual diagrams

draw.io, also known as diagrams.net, is used to create clear diagrams for software, processes, networks, and teams. Companies bring it in when they need fast visual documentation that is easy to share, review, and update.

Common use cases

  • Architecture and system overviews
  • Process flows and decision trees
  • Network and infrastructure maps
  • User journeys, org charts, and project views

The tool fits workshops, handover documents, and internal knowledge bases. In Germany, it is often useful for distributed teams that need simple, readable diagrams without heavy setup.

Workflow and storage

draw.io works well in browser-based and desktop workflows, depending on how a team stores files and collaborates. Skilled specialists know how to handle shared folders, versioned diagrams, and exports for presentations, wikis, or documentation systems.

What strong specialists do

A strong draw.io professional keeps diagrams consistent and easy to maintain. They use layers, shapes, connectors, templates, and reusable libraries to build diagrams that stay readable as projects grow.

  • Clean layout and naming
  • Consistent icons and symbols
  • Clear exports for different channels
  • Simple updates without breaking structure

When companies need help

Freelance expertise matters when diagrams have become messy, when teams use different styles, or when documentation must be standardized quickly. It also helps during migrations from older draw.io files or from other diagram tools such as Lucidchart or Visio.

Team collaboration

draw.io is often part of cross-functional work between product, engineering, operations, and security teams. Good specialists can work remotely, share files in common formats, and adapt to English or German communication when a Germany-based team needs both.

Frequently asked questions

Need clarity? These are the questions we hear most often about draw.io.

draw.io is used to build diagrams that explain systems, processes, and relationships clearly. Companies use it for architecture views, workflows, org charts, network maps, and documentation that needs to stay easy to read. It is especially useful when many people need to review the same diagram over time.

Yes, draw.io is widely known today as diagrams.net. Many people still search for the older name, so specialists should understand both. The product and workflow stay the same for most everyday use cases.

A draw.io specialist is often chosen when teams want simple diagramming, flexible file handling, and broad sharing options. Compared with Visio, it is usually lighter to use in browser-based work. Compared with Lucidchart, it is often valued for straightforward editing and easy diagram ownership.

A strong draw.io freelancer usually understands documentation, system design, and clear visual structure. Helpful adjacent skills include process mapping, technical writing, and working with wiki or documentation tools. For some projects, knowledge of architecture diagrams and network notation is also useful.

A draw.io project can be handled by someone with solid diagram discipline, even if the work is not complex. Simple clean-up tasks need strong layout habits and consistency. Larger documentation sets need someone who can standardize styles, naming, and reusable elements across many diagrams.

Most draw.io work can be done remotely because diagrams are easy to review, comment on, and export. On-site collaboration can help during workshops, discovery sessions, or process mapping with many stakeholders. For Germany-based teams, remote work is often practical as long as review cycles are clear.

A good draw.io specialist produces diagrams that are readable, consistent, and easy to update. Look for clean alignment, clear labels, sensible grouping, and exports that work in the places your team actually uses. Quality also shows in how well the specialist understands the business context behind the diagram.

Before starting with draw.io, a freelancer should know where the diagrams will live, who will edit them, and what format the team expects. They should also ask whether the work is for a one-off deliverable or a long-term documentation system. That helps avoid rework and keeps the diagram structure stable.

The average hourly rate of freelancers in Germany who have used draw.io in their recent projects is 100 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 802 € based on an 8-hour working day.

Of the freelancers in Germany who have used draw.io in their recent projects, 91% hold at least a Bachelor's degree, 55% hold at least a Master's degree, and 11% hold a doctorate.

On average, freelancers in Germany who have used draw.io in their recent projects have 18 years of professional experience, with a single engagement typically lasting around 2 years.
