Experience
Domain Architect Core Party Data
ING DiBa AG
Technologies: Confluence, PlantUML, BPMN
- As part of the modernization of ING DiBa, the master data management system is also being renewed. As the Domain Architect for this topic, I had to find a way to combine global solution approaches from the headquarters in Amsterdam with local requirements from the German branch in Frankfurt.
Solution Architect Smart Charging
E.ON AG, Essen / BMW AG, Munich / P3 Group GmbH, Stuttgart
Technologies: ISO 15118-2 / 20, OCPP, OCPI, OSCP, C4, UML
In this project, home charging for electric vehicles is intended to become “smarter”. The goal is to manage all consumers and energy producers, such as solar PV systems, in a household through a holistic approach.
Where possible, energy prices are taken directly from the spot market. Bidirectional charging and solar charging were also included in the scope of this architecture assessment.
Solution Architect eMobility / Enterprise Architect
Porsche AG / MHP, Stuttgart / P3 Group GmbH, Stuttgart
Technologies: Docker, Spring Boot, Sonarqube, Java, AWS, Splunk, OICP, OCPI, eMIP
- The Porsche Charging Service (PCS) is the central element of Porsche’s eMobility concept. PCS is the key component of a Mobile Service Provider (MSP). Its main function is therefore the sale and billing of energy through charge point operators (CPOs). My primary focus was ensuring that the charging process worked smoothly. Due to the significant increase in the number of electric vehicles, the services supporting charging also had to grow substantially. This scaling was one of the highest-priority tasks. I was also responsible for redesigning and further developing the software, including the backend rollout and mobile app rollout, as well as analyzing errors. This also meant that I was responsible for a large part of the project management, as communication with the business department and sprint planning were part of my responsibilities.
Solution Architect (DevSecOps)
AKDB
Technologies: Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Spring Boot, Sonarqube, Nexus, Suse Enterprise Linux, Vulnerability Scan, License Scan, SAST, DAST
- Development of a setup and roadmap for introducing a development toolchain. AKDB develops and operates software in the eGovernment sector. Due to the sensitive data involved, this software must of course be operated securely. It is therefore essential to ensure the highest possible level of security throughout the various development and deployment phases.
Solution Architect / Enterprise Architect / Project Manager
Peri GmbH
Technologies: Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Vault, Spring Boot, Consul, Sonarqube, Nexus, BPMN, Suse Enterprise Linux, SOA Architecture, JaCoCo
The goal of the PSD Workflow Engine project was to replace the existing document workflow engine with a new service-oriented solution. This involved an approach based on an orchestrated microservice landscape. In my role as a DevOps consultant, I introduced reliable version control with semantic versioning using GitLab. I was responsible for the build, test (Sonarqube, JMeter) and deployment pipelines. I also designed and implemented the deployment chain and staging environment. The scripts used an artifact repository (Sonatype Nexus) and Helm charts to deploy to a small Kubernetes cluster, which was also under my responsibility.
Another focus was the management of configurations and service discovery (HashiCorp Consul), as well as the secure provision of secrets (HashiCorp Vault). Deployment packages were assembled and archived from these artifacts at each stage, allowing versions to be restored in an audit-proof manner. I managed the entire project.
Solution Architect / Enterprise Architect
Audi AG / Hewlett Packard Enterprise
Technologies: Kubernetes, CA API Gateway, Helm, Vault, AWS, Docker, MySQL, Blue-Green Deployment, Linux
- The MSG L&S (Lift and Shift) project is part of the Connected Car implementation. The existing MSG project (on-premises) was to be migrated to the AWS Cloud. My task was to design secure deployment processes and develop zero-downtime operations. The ODP (Volkswagen One Digital Platform) project provides the platform for Car2Customer Communication. In this environment, I was responsible for the API gateway area. A strong focus was placed on zero-downtime deployment. When designing this technology, it was important not only to find a balanced blue-green approach, but also to consider the horizontal scaling of Kubernetes pods. HashiCorp Vault was also selected for secret management. Since the platform was operated in the cloud (AWS), not only services but also entire server environments were deployed using KOPS. The toolchain was implemented with Concourse (software rollout), which also made it possible to version the pipelines themselves and automate their setup.
Solution Architect
Siemens Healthcare / Atos Worldline
Technologies: ABAC, IAM, Microservices, Docker, OpenShift
- SRS NG is a platform for remote services intended for clinics and hospitals. This platform ensures a secure and reliable connection for maintenance and software rollouts. As the cross-system architect, my task was to design solutions for the system landscape (cloud), select third-party components, and moderate discussions between the software architects of the subsystems.
Team Coach Microservices “Central Information Systems”
Ergo Direkt
Technologies: Spring Boot, OpenShift, Docker, Jenkins, JPA, JSON, REST
- In this project, my task was to quickly train a team in microservices using Spring Boot, Docker, and OpenShift.
DCF (Distributed Computing Framework), IoT / Software Architect / Project Manager / Scrum Master
AtlasCopco / Toyota
Technologies: Node.js, Java, JDBC, JSON, XML, XSD, API Design, REST, UML (Enterprise Architect), REST, SOA, SOAP, JSLint (CleanCode), Swift 3
This project focused on collecting data fragments from different sources (standardized APIs via web services/SOAP), aggregating them, and processing them further. This data mostly originated from passenger car production. All relevant connections in a vehicle were logged for quality assurance. Since this software could be installed on a large number of systems, it was expected that the amount of collected data would also increase rapidly. For this reason, a scalable architecture and a “Big Data” concept were considered from the beginning.
Naturally, it was also very important in this project to perform unit tests automatically (Continuous Testing / test automation / test-driven development / Jenkins). Compliance with the CleanCode rules was given particular importance during regular code reviews. This was reinforced by a clear guideline (Definition of Done).
My responsibilities also included Scrum planning for sprints (including the backlog), retrospectives, and moderating the daily stand-ups. Since the PO (Product Owner) was based in Japan, it was important to precisely define the requirements with the Business Unit during regular communication.
Project preparation, risk analysis, technology evaluation, and project documentation were also carried out by me in accordance with the client’s guidelines.
Developer and Architect for a Software Documentation Tool
ZF Friedrichshafen
Technologies: XML, XSLT, CSS, XHTML, DocBook, PDF, RTF, SVG, Apache FOP (PDF / RTF), Apache Batik, JavaScript, ClearCase, Python, Nokia QT, SAXON, Jetty Java Servlet Engine, JQuery, GIT, Jira, Eclipse, Oxygen, Microservices, Omake, GNUMake, Ubuntu 7 (Linux), Windows 7, Maven, CLI, Jenkins
My responsibilities covered the maintenance and further development of a software documentation system (toolchain). The toolchain was gradually migrated from a pure Make/batch environment (with MS Windows 7) to a Java Servlet environment. For this, it was important to adapt the shell scripts to current requirements and gradually replace them with Java components. Data modeling and process modeling were therefore also part of the requirements. Another task was to provide a frontend for entering content. My tasks included not only the technical implementation, but also selecting the appropriate tools and making “make-or-buy” decisions (in coordination with a development team in Pilsen).
Integrating products from office applications such as Visio or Word was also part of my responsibilities. These subtasks were likewise solved using small Java applications (with a view to later migrating to an SOA architecture).
Due to the distribution of the development teams, one of my tasks was to design and implement a synchronization process for ClearCase and GIT. Ubuntu, GIT, and Jira were selected for this purpose. I also set up and administered this environment.
Developer in the brand design environment
Daimler TSS
Technologies: GIT, Eclipse, XML, XSLT, CSS, HTML, Apache Sling, OSGi, JCR, Adobe CQ5, Oracle 11g, Spring, Selenium, Freemarker, Scrum
- The work packages included implementing dynamic content such as shopping cart functionality for downloadable assets, as well as generating XML output and processing it further into PDF.
Developer for the online connection of passenger car head units (Comand Online)
Daimler TSS
Technologies: GIT, Eclipse, XML, DBUnit, JUnit, Jira, Bamboo, EJB, IBM WebSphere 8.5, OpenJPA, JavaScript, PMD (CleanCode), JSHint, Mylyn, Selenium, EclEmma, Gradle, Scrum, Confluence
The goal of this project was to develop a new version of Mercedes-Benz Comand Online for passenger car head units. The main focus was on the highest standards of code quality and scalability. To achieve this, an end-to-end toolchain for Continuous Testing and Continuous Deployment was established, also with regard to DevOps.
A special JavaScript simulation was designed specifically for Firefox and WebKit browsers to simulate the functionality of vehicle environments.
Architect with development responsibilities for Audi Service Key 2
T-Systems / Volkswagen
Technologies: Oracle, JEE, Spring, RAD 8, IBM WebShere 8, JSF
ASK2 – Audi Service Key 2
The project aimed to improve service in workshops by storing vehicle data on the vehicle key. My responsibility covered the “Elsa Pro” component. The introduction of the Elsa-Pro web system at Volkswagen enables the worldwide coordination of processes and databases throughout the company’s sales network. By connecting databases and systems in the after-sales area of the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer, the new Elsa-Pro system supports fast and customer-friendly order processing at an international level.
XSLT / CMS developer with Tridion and Saxon
Pharmaceutical service provider
Technologies: GIT, Eclipse, XML, XSLT, Saxon, CSS, HTML, Ajax
- The main tasks involved transforming XML data from various sources into a suitable layout based on the defined design. XSLT, CSS, and Ajax were used to achieve this.
Architect and developer for output management (printing, faxing, and email)
Kühne + Nagel
Technologies: JEE, Eclipse, XML, XSLT, Saxon, Jtopen, Apache http-Core, Jasper, Apache Mina, SOAP, JAX-B, JAX-RS, JAX-P, JMS, ESB, Hibernate, Spring, JavaDoc, EA
- The task required an analysis of the existing solution and the creation of a step-by-step migration strategy. By structuring and consolidating the requirements from the calling business units, a top-down concept was created that fully supported the new architecture in terms of scalability and performance. The MMI factor was also defined as one of the highest priorities during the design, as administrators in the regions had to be trained during the rollout. The technical planning focused particularly on high performance and a balanced structure. The implementation took place in close cooperation with the customer’s iSeries experts, resulting not only in a pure JEE platform but also taking the specific requirements of the AS/400 into account. My responsibilities therefore included not only development but also application design and system architecture, as well as negotiating data exchange formats between the application and the calling systems. Timely delivery also played a very important role. To achieve the best possible project control, weekly stand-up meetings were held to document progress within the project group and discuss the next steps and required effort. The Scrum methodology served as a model for this process.
SOAP interface for host systems
GAD
Technologies: JEE, Eclipse, Apache Axis2, Tomcat, SVN
- The goal of this requirement was to create a universal interface for trading platforms for banking products. After analyzing the specific requirements, a web service solution was approved during the design phase. When implementing the individual host interfaces, particular attention had to be paid to the high security standards. Since this system was newly created, I was given a free hand in its architecture and design, as long as the requirements of the business unit allowed it.
PDF processor for use in “web product comparisons”
Toshiba
Technologies: JEE, Eclipse, iText, Spring, SVN
- Since Toshiba offered retailers the option to compare products, a way to save the results had to be found. The goal was therefore to implement a PDF generator. My tasks included application design (system architecture), development and integration.
