Renewal of the active network infrastructure
Healthcare
As part of this project, the existing active network infrastructure was modernized and aligned for the future. The goal was to introduce a high-performance, secure, and scalable network and WLAN infrastructure, including a Network Access Control (NAC) solution to improve network security and central access control.
At the start of the project, a comprehensive requirements analysis was carried out, taking into account the technical, operational, and security-related requirements of the clinic sites. Based on this, a technical tender was prepared for new switches, WLAN access points, and the NAC solution.
Through the successful implementation of the project, a modern, standardized, and secure network infrastructure was established that meets the growing demands for availability, mobility, and IT security in hospital operations.
Tasks:
- Support of the tender process including technical evaluation of offers and bidder assessment
- Lead and coordination of the entire project implementation
- Coordination of the project process with internal stakeholders, departments, and hospital IT
- Management of external service providers during implementation and installation of the systems
- Monitoring of the implementation including quality control, project acceptance, and defect management
- Coordination and management of communication between hospital IT and external service providers as part of the NAC implementation
- Escalation management for technical and organizational challenges
- Ongoing budget monitoring as well as control of project effort and additional costs
- Preparation of decision papers on project changes, additional services, and risks for management
Restructuring of the IT network architecture
Healthcare
As part of this project, the existing IT network architecture was fundamentally restructured and the migration of the existing telecommunications solution to a modern VoIP system was implemented. The goal was to modernize the communications infrastructure and create a secure, high-performance, and future-ready network architecture for hospital operations.
A key part of the project was the joint creation of the network and security design in close cooperation with hospital IT. Requirements regarding availability, voice quality, network security, and segmentation of the communication systems were taken into account.
Tasks:
- Planning and coordination of the migration of the existing telephone system to a VoIP-based communication solution
- Creation of the network and security design for the new infrastructure
- Definition of the required network segmentation and QoS mechanisms to ensure voice quality
- Planning of the individual migration steps taking into account ongoing hospital operations
- Coordination of migration time windows with internal stakeholders and departments
- Definition and execution of test, acceptance, and rollback procedures to minimize operational risks
- Coordination of involved service providers and technical implementation partners
- Support during go-live and during the stabilization phase
Concept and implementation of a multi-level firewall architecture in the data center
Healthcare
As part of this project, a multi-level firewall architecture for the data center was designed and implemented to sustainably strengthen the security requirements of modern hospital and corporate infrastructures. The goal was to establish a holistic security concept based on BSI basic protection and the defense-in-depth principle to segment and secure critical network areas.
At the beginning of the project, a comprehensive firewall and security concept was created, including the definition of security zones, communication paths, and segmentation requirements. The required feature sets such as application control, IDS/IPS, VPN, high availability, logging, and central management and monitoring functions were developed and evaluated.
In the further course of the project, various firewall vendors and solution approaches were evaluated according to technical, operational, and economic criteria. In addition, support was provided in creating the technical tender documents and in vendor evaluation.
Tasks:
- Requirements analysis and concept development
- Evaluation of systems available on the market
- Support in preparing the tender documents
- Planning and coordination of the implementation of the new firewall infrastructure
- Migration of existing legacy systems into the new security architecture
- Coordination and management of external service providers and implementation partners
- Creation of technical operations and migration documentation
- Support during go-live and stabilization of operations
Renewal of the active network infrastructure & WLAN rollout at 4 clinic sites
Healthcare
As part of this project, the modernization of the active network infrastructure and the full-scale WLAN rollout at four clinic sites were planned and coordinated. The goal was to increase network stability, performance, and WLAN coverage, as well as to create a future-ready infrastructure for clinical and administrative applications.
The focus of the project was on managing the replacement of existing network components with new Cisco switches and WLAN access points. The implementation measures were coordinated across all sites and carried out with ongoing hospital operations in mind.
Tasks:
- Planning and coordination of the installation of new switches and WLAN access points
- Coordination with internal stakeholders regarding scheduling, process coordination, and definition of suitable migration windows
- Close cooperation with the project lead for the renewal of the passive infrastructure
- Execution of project-specific risk management including assessment and tracking of potential operational risks
- Management and coordination of external service providers during the implementation phase
- Review and approval of hours worked for billing in line with the tender and bill of quantities
- Project acceptance including defect management and follow-up on open items
Implementation of a homogeneous network infrastructure across multiple clinic sites
Healthcare
As part of this project, a standardized and homogeneous network infrastructure for various clinic sites was designed and implemented. The goal was to unify the existing switching landscape to improve stability, scalability, security, and operations management within the site networks.
A key part of the project was the creation of a site-wide Layer 2 switching design, taking into account technical, operational, and high-availability requirements. Based on the criticality of each site and its individual infrastructure needs, suitable switch vendors and hardware models were selected.
For particularly critical facilities, especially acute care hospitals and central data center sites (ZRS), a redundant Layer 2 switching infrastructure was designed and implemented to ensure highly available network supply.
Tasks:
- Design of the L2 switching design
- Definition of standardized switch configurations
- Planning and preparation of switch migrations at the clinic sites
- Scheduling and coordination of migration windows
- Management and coordination of external service providers during the implementation phase
- Definition of monitoring and operational requirements
- Creation of technical documentation and operating documents
- Execution of the hyper-care phase to stabilize operations after migration
