Data Security

Hamburg
Enrique Gallardo

Last position:

Security Architect at Capgemini

I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology

Test management

TestRail is a test case management tool for software teams that need clear control over manual and automated testing. It helps specialists plan suites, organize runs, and track what was tested, what failed, and what still needs attention.

Core work

  • Test case design and review
  • Test run planning and execution
  • Defect-linked result tracking
  • Release-ready status reporting

Strong professionals keep the structure simple enough for teams to use every day and detailed enough for audits, handovers, and release decisions.

Ecosystem

TestRail is often used with Jira, Git-based CI tools, and automation frameworks that push results back into a shared test flow. You may also hear it called the Gurock tool, since it comes from Gurock Software. In Germany, this is common in product teams that need clear traceability across distributed delivery work.

When to bring help

Companies usually bring in freelance expertise when test processes become messy, releases move faster, or teams need better reporting across manual and automated checks. Specialists are also useful during a new rollout, a migration from spreadsheets, or a cleanup of old test suites.

  • New TestRail setup
  • Test suite cleanup
  • Workflow and field design
  • Jira integration support
  • Reporting and release views

What good experts do

A strong TestRail specialist understands both the tool and the testing process behind it. They know how to model reusable cases, avoid duplicate records, set naming rules, and keep cycles readable for QA, product, and delivery teams. They also think about maintenance, not just setup.

Working style

For Germany-based teams, remote support is common for setup, integration, and reporting work, while on-site sessions can help when processes need alignment across several departments. Good specialists write clearly in English and can adapt to German-language teams when needed. The key is clean handover, stable structure, and fast adoption.

Frequently asked questions

Key details about TestRail, drawn from the questions we get asked most.

TestRail is used to manage test cases, test runs, and results in one place. Companies use it to keep manual testing organized, support release checks, and create a clear view of quality before deployment.

TestRail is far better when teams need traceability, reuse, and cleaner reporting than a spreadsheet can provide. Spreadsheets can work for very small efforts, but they become hard to maintain once test cycles, owners, and defect links start to grow.

A strong TestRail specialist usually knows software testing workflows, Jira, and basic automation concepts. They should also understand test design, release coordination, and how QA teams share status with product and delivery groups.

TestRail work can start with a focused specialist if the goal is setup, cleanup, or integration support. Larger programs usually need someone who can also shape process, define structure, and keep the system easy to maintain over time.

Yes, TestRail specialists often work remotely for German teams because setup, workflow design, and reporting are easy to handle online. On-site workshops can still help when several teams need to agree on a shared testing process.

Look for clear case structures, sensible naming, and a setup that matches how your team actually tests. A strong TestRail freelancer also asks about integrations, reporting needs, and who will maintain the system after handover.

TestRail is especially strong for manual test management, but it also works well alongside automation. Many teams use it as the system of record while automated checks feed results back from their pipeline or test framework.

Before starting TestRail work, freelancers should understand the product, release rhythm, and current testing pain points. They also need access to related tools such as Jira or your CI setup so they can design a flow that fits real work, not just the tool.

The average hourly rate of freelancers in Germany who have used TestRail in their recent projects is 90 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 723 € based on an 8-hour working day.

Of the freelancers in Germany who have used TestRail in their recent projects, 91% hold at least a Bachelor's degree and 55% hold at least a Master's degree.

On average, freelancers in Germany who have used TestRail in their recent projects have 20 years of professional experience, with a single engagement typically lasting around 1.9 years.

The most common languages among freelancers in Germany who have used TestRail in their recent projects are German (100%), English (97%), and French (23%).

The most common industries among freelancers in Germany who have used TestRail in their recent projects are Information Technology (97%), Banking and Finance (61%), and Healthcare (48%).

The most common business areas among freelancers in Germany who have used TestRail in their recent projects are Information Technology (100%), Quality Assurance (94%), and Product Development (71%).
