Security Architect at Capgemini
I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology
Vulnerability visibility
Rapid7 InsightVM is a risk-based vulnerability management platform for discovering assets, assessing exposure, and prioritizing remediation. It combines asset inventory, vulnerability data, policy context, and risk scoring so security teams can focus on weaknesses that matter most to the business. The platform supports on-premises, cloud, endpoint, and network environments.
Core capabilities
InsightVM helps companies maintain a live view of their attack surface and turn findings into controlled remediation work.
- Discover and classify assets across changing environments
- Scan systems for vulnerabilities and configuration weaknesses
- Prioritize findings using risk and exploit context
- Track remediation through dashboards, projects, and reports
- Measure exposure over time for security and leadership teams
Ecosystem and tooling
Strong work with InsightVM includes the Rapid7 Security Console, Scan Engines, Insight Agent, and the broader Insight platform. Specialists often connect findings with SIEM, SOAR, ticketing, identity, endpoint, cloud, and configuration management tools. They may also use REST APIs, automation scripts, dashboards, and custom reporting to fit existing security operations.
When companies need help
Freelance expertise is useful during a new InsightVM rollout, asset discovery project, or change in scanning architecture. Companies also bring in specialists when scan coverage is incomplete, risk scores are hard to interpret, remediation ownership is unclear, or reports do not support operational decisions. In Germany, remote delivery is common, while workshops and environment reviews may benefit from on-site collaboration and clear English or German communication.
Practical project work
Typical assignments range from designing sites and scan templates to tuning credentials, validating agents, and improving remediation processes.
- Review current asset coverage and scanning blind spots
- Configure authenticated scans and distributed Scan Engines
- Integrate InsightVM with service management and security workflows
- Build dashboards and reports for technical and business audiences
- Create repeatable remediation and verification procedures
What strong experts bring
The best professionals understand vulnerability management as an operating process, not only as a scanning task. They can explain false positives, validate findings, protect scan performance, and connect technical risk to business priorities. Look for experience with network segmentation, Windows and Linux systems, cloud assets, APIs, security controls, and stakeholder coordination. A strong specialist leaves behind documented configuration, useful reporting, and a process teams can maintain.
Frequently asked questions
Need clarity? These are the questions we hear most often about Rapid7 InsightVM.
Rapid7 InsightVM is used to discover assets, identify vulnerabilities, assess exposure, and prioritize remediation across infrastructure, endpoints, cloud resources, and network environments. It helps security teams connect technical findings with ownership, workflow, and business risk.
Rapid7 InsightVM is often compared with Tenable and Qualys for vulnerability assessment and risk-based remediation. The right choice depends on asset coverage, integrations, reporting needs, scanning architecture, existing security tooling, and how each platform fits the company’s operating process.
A strong Rapid7 InsightVM professional usually understands network discovery, authenticated scanning, Windows and Linux administration, cloud infrastructure, endpoint agents, and vulnerability remediation. Useful adjacent skills include REST APIs, scripting, SIEM or SOAR integration, ticketing workflows, and security reporting.
A Rapid7 InsightVM rollout should produce a defined asset model, reliable scan coverage, suitable credentials, tuned Scan Engines, and clear remediation ownership. The specialist should also document configuration, validate findings, and provide dashboards or reports that different stakeholders can use.
The right level of Rapid7 InsightVM expertise depends on the scope, environment complexity, and required integrations. A focused configuration review may need a specialist with targeted platform knowledge, while a large rollout calls for broader experience in vulnerability management, networks, cloud systems, automation, and change coordination.
Most Rapid7 InsightVM configuration, reporting, and integration work can be completed remotely with secure access and well-defined contacts. On-site sessions can still help with discovery workshops, segmented networks, operational handover, or teams that prefer German-language collaboration.
Ask a Rapid7 InsightVM specialist to explain how they validate asset coverage, handle scan credentials, distinguish actionable findings from noise, and prioritize remediation. Strong professionals discuss measurable process improvements, safe scanning practices, documentation, and integration with the company’s existing security operations.
Rapid7 InsightVM can support hybrid environments by combining network scanning, agents, asset context, and integrations around cloud and on-premises systems. Results depend on correct access, asset ownership, network reachability, tagging, and ongoing tuning as infrastructure changes.
The average hourly rate of freelancers in Germany who have used Rapid7 InsightVM in their recent projects is 108 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 866 € based on an 8-hour working day.
