Security Architect at Capgemini

I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology

Tanzu in practice

VMware Tanzu is a portfolio for building, deploying and operating modern applications on Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure. It brings application platform capabilities, Kubernetes management and developer tooling together for teams moving from traditional enterprise systems to containerized delivery. Tanzu supports workloads across private data centers, public clouds and hybrid environments.

Core platform components

Tanzu Application Platform provides a curated path from source code to a running workload, with opinionated templates, security controls and software supply chain practices. Tanzu Kubernetes Grid supplies consistent Kubernetes clusters, while Tanzu Mission Control helps teams manage clusters and policies across environments. The wider ecosystem commonly includes Spring, Harbor, Prometheus, Grafana, Git, CI pipelines and public cloud services.

What experts deliver

  • Design Tanzu platform architectures for hybrid and multi-cloud environments
  • Install and configure Tanzu Kubernetes Grid and cluster operations
  • Create application templates, golden paths and developer self-service workflows
  • Connect registries, identity services, observability and delivery pipelines
  • Modernize Spring applications for containerized deployment

When companies need specialists

Companies bring in freelance Tanzu specialists when an internal team needs to establish a platform, migrate workloads or stabilize Kubernetes operations. They can assess an existing VMware environment, define a practical target architecture and create repeatable onboarding for application teams. In Germany, they may also support distributed teams that need clear documentation and reliable remote collaboration alongside on-site workshops.

Skills that matter

Strong professionals understand more than Tanzu product configuration. They combine Kubernetes administration, Linux, networking, storage, identity and cloud security with infrastructure as code and release automation. Experience with Spring Boot, GitOps, container images, policy enforcement and observability helps them connect platform decisions to application delivery rather than treating the cluster as an isolated system.

Choosing the right professional

Look for evidence of production Tanzu work, not only generic Kubernetes knowledge. A capable specialist can explain version compatibility, cluster lifecycle choices, upgrade planning, backup and recovery, access controls and support ownership in clear terms. Ask for architecture examples, migration deliverables and runbooks, then test whether the person can work effectively with application, security and operations teams. German or English communication can be agreed according to the stakeholders involved.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions that come up most around VMware Tanzu.

VMware Tanzu is used to build and operate application platforms around Kubernetes, containers and cloud-native delivery. Companies use it to standardize cluster management, provide developer self-service and run Spring or other workloads across private and public infrastructure.

VMware Tanzu adds supported platform components, lifecycle processes and enterprise integrations around Kubernetes. Direct Kubernetes can offer more control, while Tanzu can reduce the operational effort required for governance, cluster management, developer workflows and hybrid infrastructure.

A strong VMware Tanzu specialist usually brings Kubernetes, Linux, networking, storage and identity experience. Infrastructure as code, GitOps, CI/CD, container security, observability and Spring Boot knowledge are also valuable when the work covers the full application platform.

The required depth depends on the scope. A VMware Tanzu specialist handling a platform rollout or migration should have delivered comparable production environments, while a focused configuration task may need narrower product expertise. Discuss cluster count, integrations, compliance needs, upgrade ownership and support expectations before selecting a professional.

VMware Tanzu work is often suitable for remote collaboration because architecture, configuration, documentation and pipeline work can be performed securely online. On-site sessions may still help with data-center access, workshops or complex migration planning, and teams should agree on German or English communication early.

Tanzu Application Platform provides developer-facing workflows for deploying applications to Kubernetes. It can combine application templates, workload definitions, supply chain controls and platform services so teams follow a consistent path from code to a running service.

Ask a VMware Tanzu professional to explain a real platform design, including trade-offs for networking, identity, upgrades, observability and recovery. Quality is shown through clear architecture records, tested automation, usable runbooks and the ability to explain operational risks to both technical and business stakeholders.

VMware Tanzu grew from technology associated with Pivotal, including Cloud Foundry and Spring expertise, while expanding into Kubernetes-based application platforms. The relevant fit depends on whether a project needs modern container orchestration, application modernization, continued Cloud Foundry support or a transition between approaches.
