Security Architect at Capgemini
I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology
McAfee security scope
McAfee provides endpoint protection, threat prevention and security management for devices, users and corporate environments. Companies use McAfee Endpoint Security to detect malware, block suspicious activity and enforce controls across workstations and servers. The technology supports security operations that need central visibility and consistent policy enforcement.
Core platform components
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, often called McAfee ePO, provides central administration for policies, product deployment, reporting and compliance checks. Specialists may also work with Endpoint Security modules for threat prevention, firewall control, web protection and adaptive threat response. In some environments, McAfee Enterprise products have a close relationship with the later Trellix ecosystem, so product history and licensing context matter.
Typical project work
- Deploy and upgrade McAfee Endpoint Security across managed devices
- Design policies for malware prevention, firewall rules and web control
- Build ePO workflows, dashboards, repositories and reporting routines
- Investigate detections and improve endpoint response processes
- Connect McAfee events with SIEM, identity and service management tools
Projects often include policy migration, tenant or server consolidation, endpoint onboarding and security baseline reviews. Strong delivery requires careful testing because an overly strict rule can disrupt business applications, while weak coverage leaves avoidable gaps.
Skills around McAfee
Effective McAfee work combines endpoint security with Windows administration, networking, identity management and incident response. Experts should understand directory services, certificates, proxy paths, software distribution and log analysis. Familiarity with SIEM integrations and security operations helps teams turn endpoint alerts into useful investigations rather than isolated notifications.
When companies need specialists
- Existing policies create false positives or interfere with business software
- A large device estate needs structured deployment or product migration
- Security findings lack clear ownership, evidence or response procedures
- ePO reporting no longer gives leaders a reliable view of coverage
Freelance expertise is useful during audits, transformation projects, urgent remediation and periods of limited internal capacity. A specialist can review the current design, document changes and transfer practical knowledge to the permanent team.
What strong experts deliver
Experienced professionals start with the environment, threat model and operational constraints instead of applying generic settings. They define rollback plans, test policies with representative devices and document exceptions clearly. Quality also shows in clean ePO structure, useful alert handling, measured change control and explanations that security and infrastructure teams can both act on.
Frequently asked questions
Before you brief your next project: the most common questions about McAfee.
McAfee is used to protect endpoints, control security policies and identify suspicious activity across corporate devices. McAfee Endpoint Security and ePolicy Orchestrator help teams combine prevention, central management, reporting and response workflows.
McAfee is often compared with Microsoft Defender, Sophos and Broadcom or Symantec endpoint products. The right choice depends on existing licenses, operating systems, policy depth, management workflows, telemetry and integration needs rather than on detection claims alone.
A strong McAfee specialist usually brings knowledge of Windows, Active Directory, networking, certificates, software distribution and incident response. SIEM integration, scripting and security policy design are also valuable when the project extends beyond basic endpoint deployment.
McAfee work needs practical experience that matches the project risk and scope. A focused policy change may need a different specialist than an ePO redesign, endpoint migration or response investigation affecting a complex enterprise environment.
Many McAfee tasks can be completed remotely through secured access, documented change control and scheduled testing. On-site work may still help with sensitive networks, device rollout or regulated environments, while German-language communication can be useful when local teams and documentation require it.
A McAfee specialist is useful when policies generate repeated false positives, endpoint coverage is unclear or an ePO environment needs restructuring. German companies may also benefit from local availability for workshops, on-site coordination and collaboration with German-speaking security teams.
Ask a McAfee professional to explain how they would assess the current policy model, test changes and handle rollback. Look for clear documentation, evidence-based troubleshooting, careful exception management and the ability to connect endpoint findings with wider security operations.
McAfee Enterprise products are commonly discussed alongside Trellix because the enterprise security business and product lines evolved under that name. A specialist should confirm the exact product versions, management console, licensing model and integration points before planning a migration or support engagement.
The average hourly rate of freelancers in Germany who have used McAfee in their recent projects is 102 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 820 € based on an 8-hour working day.
Of the freelancers in Germany who have used McAfee in their recent projects, 54% hold at least a Bachelor's degree, 15% hold at least a Master's degree, and 8% hold a doctorate.
On average, freelancers in Germany who have used McAfee in their recent projects have 30 years of professional experience, with a single engagement typically lasting around 2.2 years.
