Security Architect at Capgemini

I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology

Automated security policy orchestration

Enterprise network infrastructures are growing increasingly complex, spanning hybrid cloud environments and multi-vendor firewalls. Specialists in this technology help organizations automate security policy changes, manage risks, and ensure continuous compliance across all platforms. They design workflows that replace slow, manual firewall configurations with fast, error-free automated rules.

Key components of the suite

Experienced professionals configure and maintain the core elements of the Tufin Orchestration Suite to unify security posture management.

  • SecureTrack for real-time firewall monitoring and auditing
  • SecureChange for automated policy change workflows
  • SecureApp for application connectivity management
  • Unified visibility across hybrid environments

Why companies hire external expertise

Internal security teams are often overwhelmed by daily firewall tickets and compliance audits. Bringing in external experts accelerates the implementation of automated workflows and ensures that policy cleanup projects are executed without disrupting business operations. These specialists provide the specific expertise needed to integrate policy management with existing IT service management tools.

Essential skills for complex networks

Strong professionals possess deep knowledge of network topology, routing protocols, and multi-vendor firewall environments like Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Check Point. They are adept at writing custom API integrations to connect orchestration with deployment pipelines. Their background allows them to quickly map complex application connections and translate them into secure network policies.

Local regulations and German compliance

In Germany, companies must adhere to strict security frameworks such as the BSI IT-Grundschutz and ISO 27001. Freelance specialists working in the German market understand these regulatory requirements and configure audit-ready compliance reporting directly within the platform. They often work in a hybrid setup, combining remote policy design with on-site alignment meetings.

Measuring success in implementation

The impact of successful platform adoption is visible in reduced change window times and simplified audit preparation. Organizations experience fewer misconfigurations and a significantly lower risk of security breaches from legacy rules. Well-designed automation workflows allow internal teams to shift their focus from manual ticket processing to strategic initiatives.

Frequently asked questions

Before you brief your next project: the most common questions about Tufin.

A Tufin specialist is primarily hired to automate firewall management and security policy changes across complex, multi-vendor enterprise networks. They help organizations reduce manual configuration errors, clean up legacy security rules, and maintain continuous compliance with security standards.

While all three focus on security policy management, Tufin is highly regarded for its deep automation capabilities through SecureChange and its robust support for complex, hybrid cloud environments. A specialist can help you evaluate which platform fits your infrastructure, or assist in migrating policy management from legacy tools to this suite.

Many Tufin configuration, policy design, and automation tasks can be handled remotely by experienced specialists. However, German enterprises in highly regulated sectors like finance or automotive often require a hybrid model, where initial network discovery and sensitive policy reviews are conducted on-site for security compliance.

Beyond mastering Tufin, a strong professional should have hands-on experience with major firewall brands such as Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Check Point. Knowledge of Python, REST APIs, and ITSM platforms like ServiceNow is highly beneficial for building seamless security automation workflows.

Security policy migration is a critical task where mistakes can disrupt business operations, so hiring a professional with extensive hands-on experience in Tufin implementations is essential. They should have a proven track record of handling complex multi-vendor rulesets and executing migrations without causing network downtime.

Projects focused on SecureTrack typically involve auditing, visibility, and compliance reporting across your network. When implementing Tufin SecureChange, the expert builds automated workflows that handle the entire lifecycle of a policy change request, requiring deeper integration with your internal ticketing systems.

In Germany, organizations must comply with strict frameworks like BSI IT-Grundschutz. A Tufin expert configures automated compliance checks to ensure all firewall policies align with these local regulations, providing continuous audit readiness and instant report generation.

You can judge the quality of a Tufin professional by discussing their approach to mapping complex application dependencies and automated policy cleanup. A qualified expert should easily explain how they handle vendor-specific firewall quirks and how they design API integrations for continuous automation.

The average hourly rate of freelancers in Germany who have used Tufin in their recent projects is 103 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 826 € based on an 8-hour working day.

Of the freelancers in Germany who have used Tufin in their recent projects, 57% hold at least a Bachelor's degree and 14% hold at least a Master's degree.

On average, freelancers in Germany who have used Tufin in their recent projects have 25 years of professional experience, with a single engagement typically lasting around 2.9 years.

The most common languages among freelancers in Germany who have used Tufin in their recent projects are German (100%), English (100%), and French (44%).
