Information Security & GRC Expert at GLG (Gerson Lehrman Group)
As a Council Member at GLG (Gerson Lehrman Group), the world’s leading expert network, I provide organizations, investment firms, and consulting companies with expert discussions on demand – wherever specialized knowledge in information security, IT governance, and regulatory compliance is needed.
My assessments are based on many years of practical experience in highly regulated industries: from building and implementing information security management systems (ISMS according to ISO 27001), IT risk and vulnerability management, and business continuity (ISO 22301) to the practical implementation of European regulations such as DORA, NIS2, BAIT, and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
The cooperation is project- and discussion-based. I provide decision-makers with a practical perspective gained from real-world experience on cyber risks, security governance, and operational resilience – exactly when it is needed.

Last position:
Security Architect at Capgemini
I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology
What GRC covers
GRC means governance, risk and compliance. It gives companies a structured way to set policies, assign ownership, assess risks, test controls and show evidence to auditors or regulators. GRC work connects business objectives with operational processes instead of treating compliance as a separate document exercise.
Where it is used
GRC supports regulated and complex operating environments, including financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, technology and public-sector organisations. Typical initiatives include:
- Enterprise risk registers and risk assessments
- Policy management and employee attestations
- Internal controls and audit preparation
- Third-party and supplier risk reviews
- Regulatory obligation tracking
Platforms and integrations
GRC specialists may work with ServiceNow GRC, SAP GRC, Archer, RSA, MetricStream, OneTrust or Microsoft-aligned control environments. The right setup often connects identity management, security monitoring, ERP data, procurement systems, ticketing tools and document repositories. Configuration, data migration, reporting and integration design all affect the quality of the result.
When companies need specialists
Companies bring in freelance GRC expertise during a new platform rollout, a control redesign, an audit response or a merger. Support is also useful when risk data is spread across spreadsheets, ownership is unclear or compliance teams cannot maintain evidence manually. In Hamburg, specialists may combine remote delivery with on-site workshops for local business, operations and audit stakeholders.
Skills that matter
Strong professionals understand both control intent and daily execution. They can translate regulations and internal policies into workable requirements, define risk taxonomies, map controls to evidence and document decisions clearly. Useful adjacent skills include information security, privacy, IT service management, business continuity, internal audit, data analysis and change management.
How quality is judged
Look for professionals who can explain why a control exists, not only how a tool is configured. They should show a clear method for scoping requirements, validating migrated data, testing workflows and measuring remediation progress. Strong delivery leaves traceable ownership, usable reports and an operating model that teams can maintain after the engagement ends.
Frequently asked questions
Before you brief your next project: the most common questions about GRC.
Companies use GRC to coordinate governance, risk management and compliance activities. It can manage policies, risk assessments, control testing, audit requests, regulatory obligations and remediation work in one structured operating model.
A GRC approach creates shared ownership, repeatable workflows and traceable evidence across risks and controls. Spreadsheets can support small tasks, but they often create duplicated data, unclear versioning and weak links between obligations, controls and remediation.
Professionals may specialise in ServiceNow GRC, SAP GRC, Archer, RSA, MetricStream, OneTrust or custom control environments. The relevant experience depends on whether the project focuses on enterprise risk, IT controls, privacy, third-party risk or audit management.
A strong GRC freelancer often understands information security, privacy, internal audit, business continuity and IT service management. Data modelling, workflow configuration, reporting and change management are also valuable when a programme affects several departments.
The required experience depends on scope, regulatory complexity and the condition of existing data. A limited workflow or control review may need a focused specialist, while a platform rollout or operating-model redesign calls for someone who has led discovery, configuration, testing and adoption.
Yes, much of GRC delivery can be handled remotely through workshops, shared documentation and controlled system access. On-site sessions in Hamburg can still help with stakeholder interviews, process mapping and sensitive discussions, while clear English or German communication should match the project team.
Ask the professional to explain how they would map obligations to controls, define evidence requirements and handle exceptions. Quality is visible in a clear delivery plan, practical control language, careful data validation and reports that support decisions rather than only satisfying an audit.
A GRC freelancer should confirm the scope, target framework, accountable owners, existing systems, evidence sources and decision process. They should also clarify access restrictions, documentation standards, stakeholder availability and whether the expected outcome is advisory, configuration, implementation or operational support.
