Summary
Electrical documentation is rarely what limits a machine builder's capability. It is usually what limits their throughput. Thirteen years of EPLAN work taught me that the bottleneck is almost never the design itself. It is the fifth variant of a machine that has already been drawn four times, the parts database nobody has had a free week to clean up, and the panel layout that has to be finished before production can start on Monday. My last role before founding ILPES was CAD System Manager, building automated paths from customer datasets into EPLAN and from EPLAN out to production machines and printers. Before that I led a team of more than ten project engineers. Those thirteen years included project work for FLSmidth, Tetra Pak, Caljan, Haarslev, DESMI, SMS Group and Sanovo. I now do that work independently, for industrial manufacturers. How I work: as an external resource inside my clients' projects — their standards, their templates, their naming conventions, under NDA. The documentation goes out in their name, not mine. I design to IEC 60204-1 and IEC 61439. EU-registered and VAT-registered. I prefer to start with one small paid package rather than a framework agreement — it is a faster way for both sides to find out whether the fit is real.
