Security Architect at Capgemini
I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology
Email security
Barracuda is best known for protecting mail systems from spam, phishing, malware, and malicious links. Specialists work with Barracuda Email Protection, Barracuda Essentials, and older Barracuda Spam Firewall setups to keep mail flow stable and secure.
Web protection
Many companies bring in Barracuda professionals for Barracuda Web Application Firewall projects. Typical work includes rule tuning, reverse proxy setup, SSL handling, bot filtering, and protecting public portals, APIs, and customer login areas.
Backup and recovery
Barracuda Backup is often used when teams need reliable restore paths for mail, files, and servers. Strong experts can design retention, test recovery, clean up legacy jobs, and document disaster recovery steps that ops teams can run under pressure.
Common tasks
- Review gateway, WAF, or backup settings
- Troubleshoot delivery, filtering, or restore issues
- Migrate from older Barracuda environments
- Harden policies for mail and web traffic
- Support audits and handover notes
What strong specialists know
Good Barracuda experts understand mail routing, DNS, TLS, identity, and network security basics. They can read logs, explain false positives, and balance protection with usability instead of blocking legitimate traffic or mail.
When Germany teams call for help
In Germany, companies often need Barracuda support during upgrades, mailbox migrations, incident response, or when local IT teams lack time for deep tuning. Remote work is common, but on-site sessions help with sensitive change windows and handover to German-speaking operations teams.
Frequently asked questions
Not sure where to start with Barracuda? These answers cover the essentials.
Barracuda is used to secure email, protect web applications, and back up critical systems. In practice, that means filtering suspicious messages, enforcing web traffic rules, and keeping recovery options ready when something breaks.
Yes. Barracuda is the common short name, while Barracuda Networks is the vendor name many companies still use. Searchers may also refer to specific products such as Barracuda Web Application Firewall or Barracuda Backup.
Ask which product family is involved, whether the work is email, WAF, or backup focused, and what the current pain point is. A strong Barracuda specialist will ask about routing, existing policies, logging, and the systems that must stay available during change.
Barracuda is often chosen for focused, practical protection around mail and web traffic rather than broad security suites. Compared with general-purpose tools, it tends to be judged on how well it handles filtering, rule control, recovery, and day-to-day administration.
Good Barracuda professionals usually know DNS, TLS certificates, SMTP, reverse proxy setups, identity systems, and basic network troubleshooting. For WAF projects, understanding application behavior and false-positive analysis is especially important.
Simple policy changes may need only focused support, while migrations, incident cleanup, or security hardening need a more seasoned Barracuda expert. The harder the mail flow, the more custom the WAF rules, or the more critical the recovery path, the more project knowledge matters.
Yes, most Barracuda tasks can be handled remotely if the specialist has secure access and clear change windows. On-site time in Germany is useful for sensitive environments, stakeholder reviews, or handover sessions with local operations teams.
Look for clear explanations, clean change plans, and evidence of work on live mail, web, or backup systems. A strong Barracuda freelancer can describe trade-offs, document rollback steps, and show how they reduced risk without creating new delivery or access issues.
