Principal Cloud DevOps Architect at BP
In my role as Senior Cloud DevOps Architect for BP, an oil and gas company, I had the mission to migrate the Electric Vehicle Charging platform of the EV Division from on-premises and Azure to AWS cloud, resulting in a hybrid multi-cloud, multi-tenant SaaS solution.
Deployment with Kubernetes for the application layer meant provisioning Kubernetes clusters managed by EKS and AKS, with a focus on integrating them into a multi-tenant environment. This integration was achieved by using Kubernetes namespaces and access controls to ensure data isolation and privacy enforcement.
In the database layer, we chose an RDS instance with PostgreSQL to support the backend infrastructure of our applications. Tenants shared the same RDS instance, but each had a dedicated schema.
To ingest near real-time data from physical charge points (CPOs), as IoT devices, via the OCPI protocol, we ran into significant delays with batch processing. As a result, we built a real-time streaming data pipeline using Apache Kafka, while prioritizing an event-driven architecture.
Led collaboration across multiple internal teams, external vendors, cloud providers, and on-site partners to integrate over five systems into a unified solution.
Achievements:
- Successfully designed and implemented hybrid multi-cloud solutions, integrating multiple cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) with on-premises infrastructure, using Site-to-Site VPNs, Firewalls, and Load Balancing.
- Led the migration of on-premises infrastructure to multi-cloud, multi-tenant infrastructure, resulting in 30% faster processing times.
- Migrated workloads from VMware and Hyper-V environments to cloud-based VMs, leveraging cloud-native services to optimize performance, cost efficiency, and scalability.
- Designed a multi-tenant Kubernetes platform leveraging the Kubernetes ecosystem, using Karpenter for dynamic EC2 node provisioning, KEDA for event-driven pod autoscaling (e.g., Kafka message lag), and Rancher for centralized monitoring of multiple clusters (EKS, AKS, or on-prem K8s), replacing Microsoft-centric Azure Arc management service.
- Designed and implemented Python-based FastAPI microservices as part of the EV core-backend on AWS EKS application layer, powering data ingestion and customer analytics pipelines.
- Developed asynchronous, event-driven APIs (Python-FastAPI) for real-time integration with CPOs, supporting OCPI 2.3 and OICP protocols.
- Designed and implemented a secure, production-grade Azure Databricks platform using Terraform, ensuring scalability and cost efficiency.
- Migrated on-premises ERP to a hybrid Dynamics 365 architecture with ERP hosted locally and CRM running in Azure, integrated via Azure Arc.
- Automated CI/CD pipelines for Databricks notebooks and jobs using GitHub Actions & Databricks CLI, reducing deployment time. Reduced infrastructure provisioning time by 70% by automating cloud resource deployment with GitOps.
- Ensured compliance with internal audit and data governance standards (GDPR) through OAuth2/OIDC-based authentication and fine-grained role-based access controls.
- Developed a Zero Trust security model, enforcing least-privilege access and microsegmentation, enhancing security posture and compliance with GDPR and NIST.
- Built interactive analytics dashboards in Amazon QuickSight, integrating data from S3 and Redshift to deliver real-time business insights and visualizations with embedded access for multi-tenant users.
- Led cloud security assessments and full-lifecycle cybersecurity integration during M&A, covering AWS, Azure, IAM (Entra ID), and data protection, while aligning security posture with NIST, ISO 27001, and GDPR across hybrid and cloud-native environments.
- Reduced cloud costs by 64% for a client's dev environment by implementing automated start/stop schedules for EC2 and RDS instances via AWS CDK with EventBridge Scheduler or AWS Systems Manager.

About the technology
Modern JavaScript Dependency Management
Yarn is a deterministic package manager for the Node.js and JavaScript ecosystem. Developed initially to solve consistency and performance issues at scale, it provides reliable package installation across local development machines and automated deployment pipelines. Modern versions support advanced dependency isolation and efficient file system structures.
Workspaces and Monorepo Architecture
- Multi-package repository management with Yarn Workspaces
- Plug'n'Play zero-install architectures eliminating node_modules
- Selective version resolutions to enforce secure dependency versions
- Custom workflow plugins tailored for continuous integration pipelines
Tooling and Ecosystem Integration
Yarn functions at the core of the Node.js development stack, integrating seamlessly with build systems like Turborepo, Nx, Webpack, and Vite. Specialists configure yarn.lock integrity checks, manage private registry authentication via Verdaccio or Artifactory, and align package lifecycles with TypeScript compilation targets.
Enterprise Requirements in Munich
Technology hubs and enterprise engineering teams across Munich depend on predictable build systems to coordinate large-scale web applications. Whether standardizing shared UI component libraries in automotive software or securing fintech pipelines, local organizations mandate reproducible builds that strictly avoid unvetted third-party runtime modifications.
Why Organizations Engage External Specialists

External professionals resolve complex phantom dependency leaks, fix hoisting collisions, and design clean dependency boundaries that keep cross-functional development teams unblocked.
Hallmarks of Seasoned Professionals
Senior talent demonstrates deep mastery of modern Yarn Berry architectures, constraints engines, and custom plugin development. They optimize cache hit ratios in automated build infrastructure, maintain strict audit compliance against vulnerable packages, and balance strict dependency isolation with frictionless developer experience.
Frequently asked questions
Curious about Yarn? Here are the answers that come up again and again.
Yarn is an advanced package manager designed to install, resolve, and publish JavaScript dependencies. Teams use it to maintain reproducible software builds across distributed environments, manage multi-project monorepos via workspaces, and streamline build speeds in continuous integration systems.
Yarn Berry introduces a completely overhauled architecture centered around Plug'n'Play (PnP) rather than traditional node_modules directories. It offers faster cold installs, stricter module boundaries to eliminate phantom dependencies, and an extensible plugin system that modernizes enterprise workflows.
While npm is the default Node.js client, Yarn often leads in enterprise monorepo ergonomics through fine-grained workspace controls and constraints management. Compared to pnpm's content-addressable hard links, Yarn supports both traditional symlinking structures and virtual file systems tailored for zero-install configurations.
A proficient Yarn specialist typically brings extensive knowledge of Node.js runtimes, TypeScript configuration, and monorepo orchestration tools like Turborepo or Nx. They also possess strong backgrounds in Docker containerization, CI/CD pipeline tuning, and package registry management using tools like JFrog Artifactory.
Migrating an enterprise codebase to Yarn Berry with Plug'n'Play requires senior expertise to resolve third-party packages that make unsafe file access assumptions. Projects standardizing existing workspaces or updating lockfiles generally require mid-level proficiency with dependency graphs.
Yes, dependency management and build pipeline configuration can be executed entirely remotely. However, for organizations in Munich operating under strict compliance or hybrid schedules, having specialists within the Central European Time zone simplifies sprint alignment and code review turnarounds.
While software architecture and codebase documentation are conducted in English across tech teams in Munich, fluency in German is often an asset for coordinating with internal corporate IT and compliance departments. Most Yarn specialists operate comfortably in international, English-speaking environments.
High-quality work with Yarn is reflected in reduced CI pipeline duration, deterministic builds across development environments, and the absence of undeclared transitive dependencies. Strong professionals also establish automated constraints that prevent invalid package imports and manage lockfile hygiene systematically.
The average hourly rate of freelancers in Munich, Germany who have used Yarn in their recent projects is 108 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 862 € based on an 8-hour working day.
