Data Security

Hamburg
Enrique Gallardo

Last position:

Security Architect at Capgemini

I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology

Test automation

Katalon Studio is used to create and run automated tests for web, API, mobile, and desktop flows. It helps teams move repetitive checks out of manual work and into repeatable suites that fit release cycles. Many companies also use it to cover smoke tests and regression paths.

Where it fits

It is often chosen when teams want one tool for UI and API testing without building everything from scratch. Katalon Studio is common in delivery teams that need shared test assets, clear reporting, and a faster way to keep critical journeys under control.

What specialists deliver

  • Test case design and maintenance
  • Keyword-driven test structure
  • Data-driven test runs
  • API test suites and validation
  • CI and version control setup

Strong professionals know when to use built-in features and when to add custom Groovy logic. They keep suites stable, readable, and easy to extend as the product changes.

Ecosystem and tools

Katalon Studio connects with common testing and delivery workflows, including Git, Jenkins, Jira, and common source control setups. Experts also work with object repositories, execution profiles, test listeners, and reports so teams can trace failures and keep tests organized.

When companies hire help

Companies bring in freelance specialists when a test suite is flaky, slow, or hard to maintain. They also step in during tool rollouts, migration from Selenium or manual scripts, and before major releases when QA coverage needs to be tightened fast. In Germany, this often suits distributed teams that need remote support with clear handovers.

What good experts do

The best Katalon Studio professionals write tests that survive UI changes, separate business steps from technical detail, and document what each run proves. They should understand selectors, waits, test data, CI jobs, and root-cause analysis. For teams using Katalon or the broader Katalon platform, this means fewer false failures and cleaner release confidence.

Frequently asked questions

Before you brief your next project: the most common questions about Katalon Studio.

Katalon Studio is used to automate checks for web, API, mobile, and desktop workflows. Companies use it to reduce manual regression work and to keep critical user journeys covered as products change. It is especially useful when teams want reusable tests and readable execution reports.

Katalon Studio gives teams a more packaged testing environment, while Selenium usually means more custom setup and coding. That makes Katalon attractive when speed of setup, shared assets, and built-in reporting matter. Selenium can still be better for very custom frameworks, but Katalon is often easier to standardize across a QA team.

Bring in Katalon Studio specialists when tests are flaky, coverage is incomplete, or the current suite is hard to keep up to date. They are also useful for new framework setup, migration from manual testing, and CI integration before a release. A freelancer can help quickly without long onboarding.

A strong Katalon Studio professional usually knows Groovy, test design, selectors, API validation, and version control. Experience with Jenkins, Git, and defect tracking tools is also valuable because test work does not stop inside the editor. The best experts can explain failures in plain language, not just fix scripts.

Katalon Studio work is often done remotely because test design, scripting, and troubleshooting can be shared through repositories and screen sessions. On-site time can still help during workshop-style setup, handover, or when teams need tight collaboration with product and QA leads. In Germany, many companies mix both depending on the project phase.

Katalon Studio includes API testing features that let specialists validate requests, responses, headers, and data flows in one place. That is useful when teams need both UI and API coverage for the same release path. It also helps keep checks aligned with the same test organization and reporting.

Review whether the Katalon Studio expert writes stable tests, keeps them reusable, and documents setup clearly. Good signs are clean project structure, sensible use of keywords, reliable waits, and CI runs that fail for real product issues instead of weak scripts. Ask for examples of maintenance work, not just new test creation.

Katalon Studio is the main product many people mean when they say Katalon. Some searchers use only "Katalon" as shorthand, especially when they want help with the broader testing workflow around the tool. For hiring, it is worth checking that the expert has hands-on work with the Studio itself, not just general QA experience.

The average hourly rate of freelancers in Germany who have used Katalon Studio in their recent projects is 93 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 745 € based on an 8-hour working day.
