Last position:
Security Architect at Capgemini
I implemented a Zero-Trust architecture for robust, military-grade maritime container mini data centers based on VMware & Tanzu to support containerized GIS workloads for ground forces. The main focus was on securing communications, workload protection, and data access in contested electronic battle environments affected by jamming, interception, signal manipulation, and constantly changing operational conditions. I designed and architected use cases so that every element of workload, identity, and system could continue to operate independently and securely even in degraded or disrupted scenarios. In parallel, I defined the enterprise and solution security architecture with LeanIX, Bizzdesign, and HOPEX as enterprise architecture, repository, and governance platforms to maintain architecture inventory, relationships, traceability, target pictures, and security governance in complex environments. For the architectural designs, I used Sparx Enterprise Architect to describe formal architecture views, interfaces, trust boundaries, and system architecture in both IT and OT environments. IriusRisk was used for threat modeling of the solution to identify architecture-driven risks, derive security requirements, and detect countermeasures and design gaps directly from the solution models. Risk and compliance management was supported with Archer. Architecture decisions, control gaps, and operational risks were translated into controlled governance and auditable compliance measures. For documentation, collaboration, and visual design, I used Confluence to maintain Architecture Decision Records, Security Blueprints, and workflows. I used Lucidchart and draw.io to create design artifacts tailored to stakeholders. I also defined OT security concepts with support from electrical and mechanical engineers in the areas of oil, vehicle onboard systems, rail, power plants, pharma, gas turbines, and nuclear technology. I created the end-to-end OT security strategy, starting with global policy, developed into standards and procedures, and finally aligned with Bell-LaPadula, Purdue Model, SABSA, TOGAF ADM, CENELEC 50701, IEC 62443, and NIST standards. In addition, I worked with engineering team leads to identify critical KBP assets and place them under protective measures that segmented SCADA, PLC, and HMI assets. I drove collaboration between Security, IT, and OT teams to create standardized workflows and use cases for the OT security solution catalog, while integrating Defense-in-Depth and Zero-Trust principles into operational environments. A key part of my work was integrating multidisciplinary engineering, security, and operations stakeholders into a unified security blueprinting strategy and ensuring that architecture, threat modeling, governance, and documentation were technically strong and operationally practical.

About the technology
What it covers
DAST stands for dynamic application security testing. It checks a running application from the outside, the way an attacker would. Teams use it to find issues in web apps, APIs, login flows, and exposed endpoints before release.
Where it fits
- Web application security testing
- API security checks
- Regression scans in CI/CD
- Validation after fixes and releases
DAST is often paired with SAST, dependency scanning, and manual review. It helps catch problems that only appear at runtime, such as auth gaps, weak headers, and unsafe input handling.
Common tools
Strong specialists know how to work with OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, and similar scanners. They also understand scan profiles, authenticated testing, crawl limits, false positives, and how to adapt tests for staging environments and release pipelines.
When to bring help
Companies usually bring in freelance DAST expertise when security testing is uneven, releases move fast, or reports are hard to act on. This is common for SaaS products, e-commerce sites, and regulated teams in Germany that need clear findings without slowing delivery.
What good work looks like
Good professionals do more than run a scan. They choose the right target, handle authentication safely, confirm real risks, and explain fixes in plain language. They also know when a finding needs manual verification instead of trusting the scanner output.
What you should expect
A strong DAST specialist can set up repeatable testing, reduce noise, and connect findings to the development workflow. They leave behind useful evidence, clear remediation steps, and a process your team can keep using after the engagement ends.
Frequently asked questions
Before you brief your next project: the most common questions about DAST.
DAST is used to test a live application from the outside and look for security weaknesses that appear only when the system is running. It is common for web apps, APIs, and authenticated user journeys where runtime behavior matters. The goal is to find issues early enough to fix them before release.
DAST tests the running application, while SAST reviews source code or binaries without execution. That makes DAST better for finding environment-driven issues, broken auth flows, and response-level problems. Many teams use both because they answer different questions.
DAST is the method; Burp Suite and OWASP ZAP are tools that support it. Searchers often use those names interchangeably, but the work is broader than any single scanner. A good specialist knows how to configure the tool and when to verify results by hand.
A strong DAST freelancer usually brings API testing, HTTP knowledge, authentication handling, and basic secure coding awareness. They should also understand CI/CD pipelines, staging environments, and how to document findings for developers and security teams. Without those skills, scans often produce noise instead of useful results.
DAST work can be simple for a small app, but it gets harder when authentication, role-based access, or many environments are involved. For most serious projects, you want someone who has already tuned scans, handled false positives, and validated findings manually. That experience saves time and avoids bad reports.
Yes, DAST is often done remotely because the specialist mainly needs access to a test environment, logs, and the right contacts. For teams in Germany, remote work is common, though some companies prefer an initial workshop or a short on-site session to align on scope and access. Clear communication matters more than location.
A good DAST report explains each issue clearly, shows how it was reproduced, and separates real risks from false positives. It should name the affected path, request flow, and likely impact, then give a fix that developers can act on. If the report is vague or full of noise, the testing was probably rushed.
Bring in DAST expertise when your team needs fast setup, a second opinion, or better coverage than the current process provides. This is useful after a breach review, before a major release, or when internal security staff are busy. A freelance specialist can also help train your team on a repeatable testing routine.
The average hourly rate of freelancers in Germany who have used DAST in their recent projects is 101 €, which corresponds to a daily rate of about 810 € based on an 8-hour working day.
Of the freelancers in Germany who have used DAST in their recent projects, 92% hold at least a Bachelor's degree, 42% hold at least a Master's degree, and 8% hold a doctorate.
On average, freelancers in Germany who have used DAST in their recent projects have 16 years of professional experience, with a single engagement typically lasting around 1.7 years.
